Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died Sunday in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province, Iranian media reported. The chopper carrying President Raisi and his Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had disappeared into the mountains.
Iranian state television reported that there were "no signs" of life among the helicopter's passengers. National TV, which went over the helicopter, said there was no indication the passengers were alive.
It was a recent development in escalating regional tensions, especially over the Gaza conflict and the recent meeting between Iran and Israeli President Raisi, who assumes office in 2021, pledging unwavering support for Palestine, a statement he reaffirmed yesterday in a speech at a well.
Iranian state media released videos on Sunday showing the leader in a helicopter. The footage shows the Iranian leader looking out the window of the plane, with the camera panning to show several officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in reverse.
